Educational Lessons

Archaeology - the study of past people through the things they left behind - teaches valuable critical thinking skills, promotes creativity, and makes history tangible and exciting. Our educational resources bring local archaeology right to your classroom! These lessons share more about how archaeologists learn more about the past and engage students with Gulf Coast history.

Download our free lesson plans and activities for Grades 3-12 aligned to Alabama State Social Studies Standards

Learn more about archaeology by checking off the books on our reading lists.

Book a field trip or check out these lesson plans from the USA Archaeology Museum

Travel back in time to the 1700s and learn about Mobile’s origins with a visit to Old Mobile

Get Involved!

We are in the process of developing additional educational materials, so check back again in the future for new lessons. If you'd like to pilot an activity kit in your classroom (Grades 3-12) or would like to be involved in creating curriculum about archaeology, please email Rachel Hines at rhines@southalabama.edu for more information.
