Posted on August 31, 2015
A novella by nationally recognized writer Carolyn Haines, assistant professor of English and fiction coordinator at the СAPP, is part of an e-bundle named to the USA Today bestseller list on Thursday, Aug. 27.
“Killer Tales” is a digital collection of eight mysteries, each written by a bestselling and award winning female writer and featuring a crime-solving dog or cat. Haines’ “Guru Bones” features Mississippi Delta sleuth Sarah Booth and her sidekick Tinkie, characters from the popular “Bones” series, and their four-legged gumshoes Sweetie Pie, Chablis and Pluto, who save the day.
Other writers in the collection are Carole Nelson Douglas, Leighann Dobbs, Harper Lin, Connie Shelton, Pamela DuMond, Denise Dietz and Joanne Pence.
The USA Today bestseller list is second only to the New York Times bestseller list for tracking the popularity of American hardcover, softcover and digital book sales across genres.
Kirkus Reviews described Haines’ offering as “Stephanie Plum meets the Ya-Ya Sisterhood,” and the Providence Journal-Bulletin declared the collection to be “light, breezy, and just plain fun.”
Haines is the author of more than 100 fiction and non-fiction books, including the critically acclaimed novels “Summer of the Redeemers” and “Touched,” as well as “Delta Blues,” an anthology of short stories by some of America’s best-known writers, including John Grisham and James Lee Burke. Haines collaborated on “Delta Blues” with actor and Mississippi native Morgan Freeman with a portion of the book’s proceeds going to his literary foundation.
Haines is also a recipient of two of the South’s most prestigious writing awards – the Harper Lee Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Writer of the Year in 2010 and Mississippi’s Richard Wright Literary Excellence Award in 2009.
