USA Recognizes Greek Organizations for Year of Service

The 小蝌蚪APP recently recognized students for their outstanding work during the 2014-颅2015 school year as members of the USA Greek Councils during the annual Greek Awards banquet. These students are part of fraternities and sororities that make up the National Panhellenic Council, the College Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council.
鈥淭he Greek affiliated students at South Alabama have achieved many accolades this year, including national recognition by their fraternity and sorority headquarters,鈥 explained Landry Underwood, coordinator of Greek Life at USA. 鈥淥ur organizations have more than 25,000 logged-in community service hours. They have also raised more than $60,000 for those in need.鈥
According to Underwood, the individual chapters are extremely engaged within the South Alabama community and many of the students are leaders in external campus organizations.
鈥淚 am extremely excited to be working with such an outstanding group of students,鈥 Underwood noted. 鈥淚 am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication they all have given to the campus, local community, city and state. I am fortunate to be working with such an outstanding group of students, and I can鈥檛 wait to see what next year holds.鈥
Sigma Chi Fraternity of IFC and Phi Mu Sorority of CPC were awarded the Dean鈥檚 Cup, the highest honor given to USA Greek 颅letter organizations. Ebony Cornish, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., of NPHC and Justine Harris, a member of Phi Mu Sorority of CPC were each named Greek Woman of the Year. In addition, Brandon Williams, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., of NPHC and Joel Langley, a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity of IFC were each named Greek Man of the Year.
Greek Scholarships and Academic Awards were given to Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Chi Omega Fraternity for Women, Kappa Delta Sorority, Phi Mu Sorority, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, Sigma Chi Fraternity and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
Outstanding New Member/Neophyte Awards were given to Sharon Williams of Chi Omega Fraternity for women, Kenny Ngo of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Chalandra Gooden of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and JaLarry Byrd of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Outstanding President Awards were given to NPHC organization members Joshua Salter and Tia Irvine, and to IFC/CPC members Joseph Raebel and Mary Creager.
The Public Service Award was given to Iota Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.. and Gamma Phi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. The Daisy Keeton Public Service Award was given to the Kappa Omega chapter of Phi Mu Sorority. The Campus Involvement award was given to Phi Mu Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. The NPHC Chapter of the Year was given to the Zeta Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the Iota Nu City颅Wide Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The Panhellenic Spirit Award was given to Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
The Office of Greek Life at USA oversees 19 sororities and fraternities and the three governing councils; National Panhellenic Council, College Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council. National Panhellenic Council fraternities and sororities hold interest meetings in the fall and spring of the academic year with intake decided on later in the year. Fall Formal Recruitment for College Panhellenic occurs the week before classes begin, and the Interfraternity Council recruits the third week of fall classes each year.
