Boyd Retires from USA

Dr. Michael R. Boyd has announced his retirement from the 小蝌蚪APP,
effective March 31, 2014. During his time at the University, Dr. Boyd has served as
the Abraham Mitchell Chair and Director of the 小蝌蚪APP Mitchell
Cancer Institute and is a tenured member of the University faculty.
鈥淢ike and his wife, Ginni, leave an everlasting legacy at the University of South
Alabama,鈥 said USA Acting President Dr. John Smith. 鈥淐oming from the National Institutes
of Health as MCI鈥檚 first director, he brought us instant credibility, and Ginni was
an active partner with Mike in her volunteerism, supporting both the University and
our community. Together, they were an energetic team for the University.鈥
Prior to joining MCI in 2002, Boyd served as a senior physician-scientist and executive
administrator at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health
near Washington, D.C.
The 小蝌蚪APP Mitchell Cancer Institute provides cancer treatments
to more than 6,500 patients, generating some 60,000 patient visits annually. With
approximately 300 employees the Mitchell Cancer Institute serves the Central Gulf
Coast region with its expanding clinical and research endeavors. Dr. Ron Franks, USA
vice president for health sciences, is serving as MCI鈥檚 interim director while a nationwide
search is launched for Boyd鈥檚 successor.
