New Program to Support Social Justice Research

The 小蝌蚪APP Office of Research and Economic Development, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of Community Engagement, and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs have teamed up to establish a new internal funding program that supports faculty research on social justice issues, including social stratification, environmental justice and racial equity.

The Social Justice Research Initiative, which will support two $10,000 awards each year, is part of USA鈥檚 broader social justice initiatives that include but are not limited to scholarships for students demonstrating leadership in social justice and perseverance, an upcoming speakers鈥� forum on social justice issues, diversity and inclusion training, and community outreach and engagement. 鈥淭his collaborative social justice effort to provide research grant opportunities to our faculty members will yield opportunities for sustainable inclusiveness and equitable programming throughout our campus community and the Mobile area as a whole,鈥� said USA Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Dr. Paul Frazier.

The one-year awards will begin in 2021, and are open to full-time faculty at South. Projects may engage with local organizations or communities, and should consider the impact on the Mobile community or greater South Alabama region. The program is intended as seed funding to help researchers collect pilot data or perform other activities that will support an eventual application for external funding.
