USA National Alumni Association recognizes five faculty members and a graduate for outstanding achievement

The Сòòò½APP National Alumni Association annually recognizes five USA faculty members and a young alumnus for outstanding achievement. This year’s recipients were honored at a ceremony on August 30 at the Association’s annual membership meeting.

2018 Award Recipients

The Andy and Carol Denny National Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award acknowledges the central role of teaching at USA by recognizing faculty for their outstanding teaching contributions. The 2018 recipient is Dr. Eric Steward, associate professor, civil engineering and geotechnical engineering, College of Engineering.

The Beth and Don Davis National Alumni Association Excellence in Advising Award highlights the importance of advising at USA by recognizing faculty for their outstanding advising contributions. The 2018 recipient is Dr. Debra Chapman, associate professor, information systems and technology, School of Computing. The award will be presented by the Honorable Don and Dr. Beth Davis.

The Olivia Rambo McGlothren National Alumni Association Outstanding Scholar Award honors faculty for high achievements in the realm of scholarship as appropriate to his/her discipline. The 2018 recipient is Dr. Steven Trout, chair, department of English, College of Arts and Sciences.

The Semoon and Youngshin Chang Endowed Award for Humanitarian Services recognizes outstanding service by a faculty member. The 2018 recipient is Dr. Claire Cage, assistant professor, history, College of Arts & Sciences.

The National Alumni Association Endowed Award for Faculty Innovation honors USA faculty for outstanding achievement in research. The 2018 recipient is Dr. Om Prakash Jha, assistant professor, neonatology, USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

The Lisa Bethea Kavanagh Young Alumni Award recognizes outstanding achievement for alumni under the age of 40. The 2018 recipient is Doug Johnson. Johnson is a 2009 graduate with a bachelor of arts in finance from the Mitchell College of Business and is the owner of Inspect Mobile LLC.
