New Student Government Leaders Elected

Students recently gathered at the 小蝌蚪APP Amphitheater to hear the final results of South鈥檚 Student Government Association 2018-2019 election for new leadership.
After two days of voting, the results have been announced and Grace Newcombe, 21, a junior political science major from Huntsville, Ala., has been elected president along with her executive officers.
鈥淚 am excited to be elected as the next president of South鈥檚 SGA,鈥 Newcombe said . 鈥淚 am looking forward to working on behalf of the students."
Newcombe is a graduate of Madison County High School. Since studying at South Alabama, Newcombe has been an active member of South鈥檚 SGA, Phi Mu Sorority, Political Science Club, College Republicans, Mortar Board and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She has been named to the President鈥檚 and Dean鈥檚 lists. She is the daughter of Howard and Rhonda Newcombe.
Other officers are:
- Shaun Holloway, 20, of Prattville, Ala., a graduate of Marbury High School, will serve as vice president. He is a junior majoring in strategic communication. Holloway is a member of the American Advertising Federation, Mortar Board Honor Society, African-American Student Association, JagPALs for the Jag Success program and SGA. He is the son of Stevie Holloway Sr.
- Caleb Santa Cruz, 20, of Foley, Ala., a graduate of Foley High School, will serve as treasurer. He is a sophomore majoring in strategic communication. Santa Cruz is a member of Alpha Tau Omega, SGA, USA Southerners and the Jag Nation Television staff. He鈥檚 also a member of First Year Council and an Eagle Scout. He has been named to the Dean鈥檚 List. He is the son of Chris and Melody Santa Cruz.
- Broderick Morrissette, 21, of Prichard, Ala., a graduate of Vigor High School, will serve as attorney general. Morrissette is a junior majoring in information technology. He is a member of the Collegiate 100, the African-American Student Association and National Society of Black Engineers. He is the recipient of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs Shining Star Award and he鈥檚 been named to the Dean鈥檚 List. He鈥檚 also a member of the South Alabama Jaguar Marching Band. He is the son of Letisha Morrissette.
- Jordan Griffin, 19, of Birmingham, Ala., a graduate of Tarrant High School, will serve as chief justice. He is a sophomore majoring in business with a concentration in human resources. He is a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Collegiate 100, the SGA and iLead. He is the son of Michael and Tanora Griffin.
- Breanna Healy, 21, of Huntsville, Ala., a graduate of Pope John II Catholic High School, will serve as student at large. She is a junior majoring in professional health sciences with a concentration in physical therapy. She is a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Pre-Physical Therapy Club, SGA and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She鈥檚 been named to the President鈥檚 and Dean鈥檚 lists. She is the daughter of Brooke Healy.
SGA officers protect and advance students鈥 interests as well as promote the welfare of the student body. The organization operates as a constitutional democracy and is comprised of executive, judicial and legislative branches. The new leaders officially take office after South鈥檚 spring commencement on May 5.
