The 小蝌蚪APP Black Faculty and Staff Association and the USA  Mitchell College of Business are hosting the second annual Education Retention Summit from 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 1, at the Mitchell Center Grand Globe Lobby. The summit is free and open to all South Alabama students.

The summit provides opportunities for students at South Alabama to be plugged into resources at the university. The approach centers on developing and maintaining meaningful relationships between students, faculty, and staff. The event coordinators of the summit are also recruiting participants from local high schools seeking to learn more about what South Alabama has to offer.

Dr. Benterah Morton, one of this year鈥檚 event coordinators, and associate professor in the Department of Leadership and Teacher Education spoke about the relationships that can be built and maintained.

鈥淭hrough these relationships, we believe that students will find connections to university employees and from there to graduating from South,鈥 said Morton. 鈥淭he summit engages participants in an interactive keynote address complete with reflective and planning activities, facilitated discussions, and a USA 鈥榬esource fair'.鈥

Morton also spoke on the importance of being engaged and connected with the end goal of graduating as well as university resources the summit can connect students to.

鈥淎n engaged and connected college student is more likely to persist through graduation than a student that is disenfranchised,鈥 said Morton. 鈥淭he Education Retention Summit provides students with access points to be connected with  resources at South Alabama like mentors, programs, financial aid, scholarship services, tutoring, study abroad, career services, etc.鈥

This event supports services and resources provided by Student Academic Success at South Alabama.

Students should to attend the event.
