B J Ray

May 15, 2007 – July 31, 2007 (Third Floor Gallery)

The exhibit featured large format prints on canvas covering a broad spectrum of subjects including landscapes and waterfalls. Traveling throughout the southeast, B J Ray searches for things and places of special interest looking for unusual phases of light throughout the day. She considers light to be a crucial component; most photographs are taken using nature’s lighting.

Photographs are created using a Fuji S2 Pro camera with a variety of Nikon lenses and an Epson 9600 wide format printer. Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter 9 are used for processing files, and hand brush textures and other special effects are created using a Wacom Digital Tablet. A scene from one shot is often used to enhance a scene from another. Final prints are often composites of several shots: a time intensive process requiring as much as 80 hours.
